Harvey Kahn has been an independent producer for more than 25 years. With a degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he began his career in Washington, DC as a journalist covering issue-driven political campaigns, and later headed to Los Angeles to become the first Director of Publicity for the Disney Channel. It was while there that he began contemplating a film career. In 1998, he founded Front Street Pictures in Santa Monica and soon discovered Canada as an affordable and convenient shooting location.
In 2001, Mr. Kahn decided to relocate, and brought Front Street, now a full-service production company, to Vancouver. The company has since produced over 100 movies-of-the-week, five television series and a broad range of critically acclaimed independent films for worldwide distribution.
The highly rated horror/fantasy children’s anthology series, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, ran for four seasons on Discovery Family Channel. Nominated for many awards in several categories, it won three Daytime Emmys, three Leos, two Young Artist Awards, a Writer’s Guild of Canada Award, and a Canadian Cinema Editors Award. The supernatural action/adventure series, Spooksville, another R.L. Stine adaptation, was produced by Front Street and released exclusively on Netflix. It won both a 2014 Daytime Emmy and a Leo Award, and was nominated for several others.
In addition, Mr. Kahn has produced several independent features.
The lauded domestic drama, We Don’t Live Here Anymore, starring Naomi Watts and Mark Ruffalo, was a dramatic competition selection at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. Mr. Kahn also directed The Deal, the political thriller starring Christian Slater and Selma Blair, which premiered at the 2005 AFI Film Festival.
