“The Last Piano in Afghanistan” is inspired by the life of ethnomusicologist Dr. Ahmad Sarmast. He moved from Afghanistan to Australia during the Taliban’s rule, but returned after the US-led invasion. In Afghanistan, he founded the Afghanistan National Institute of Music and faced numerous challenges, including death threats and a Taliban suicide bombing. Despite the difficulties, he taught children about the importance of global music.
