In 1941, a baby is born intersex in rural South. Raised as a boy named Larry, he faces challenges due to his undefined sex, including rejection by the army and sterility. Larry’s feminine inclinations and close bond with his Aunt Peg provide comfort in their conservative community. Recognizing the difficulties he faces, his mother and aunt believe he would have better opportunities in California.
