Insomnia follows Emma Averill, a successful woman who stops sleeping a few weeks before her fortieth birthday, like her mother did before having a psychotic break. As Emma’s sleep deprivation gets worse, she becomes fearful of losing her mind, questions reality, and feels like someone is watching her. Her mother is in the hospital, her estranged sister suddenly appears, and her world starts to crumble. To prevent tragedy from recurring, Emma delves into her past to uncover the truth about her present situation.
