Monstrous Beauty is set in the 17th Century and follows Barbara Field, a unique woman covered in hair, born in poverty. She gets an education and joins King Charles II’s luxurious court as a “Natural Wonder.” Barbara aspires to become a playwright, mentored by actress Nell Gwyn, who wants to teach the King the value of women beyond appearance. With the help of playwright Aphra Behn, Barbara casts the attractive but untalented Vale in the lead. The story revolves around Barbara’s journey to independence and challenging the patriarchal society.
