A mysterious black sphere is discovered in the orbit of Mars. A ‘Vance Inc’ Explorer – The Achilles – is sent to investigate. Its bedraggled six-person crew wake from eight months hibernation to a further discovery. The Sphere is transmitting a single word in every Earth language ever known. First Officer Karla Grey gives an example of the word in Latin. The word is Deus. God. Is the crew of The Achilles on a journey that will lead them to look upon the face of The Creator? Or, as Karla suspects, is there a much darker secret at hand?
